Face #17

15X20" watercolor

This face has an interesting story. Ever since I can remember, a black-and-white version of this face hung in my grandmother's kitchen. Nelson, as my grandmother called him, bore a close resemblance to my great-grandfather, so I always assumed that he was a relative of ours. As it turns out, Nelson is not related. He just happens to be a photograph that my grandmother really liked. When she heard about my 100 faces project, she suggested that I paint Nelson. So here he is, having been brought from the black-and-white world into living color.
